Crowds at UMass Amherst Celebrate Patriots’ Super Bowl Win

Hundreds of students gathered Sunday night on the grounds of the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus to celebrate the Patriots’ win in Super Bowl LIII.

New England beat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Atlanta, the sixth title the team has won with the tandem of head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady.

While fans at UMass were excited, the crowds dispersed, avoiding a chaotic scene like the one a year ago, when the Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII.

Six people were arrested and at least a dozen were injured following the loss to the Eagles last year, and students threw firecrackers, glass bottles and more, climbing trees and poles.

Climbable structures were removed ahead of this year’s celebration, but that didn’t stop some fans from climbing trees.

It’s unclear if any arrests were made this year.
